Do you have 100's or more magazines in stacks that are located in many areas of your home. I did and came up with a very helpful and cleaner way to keep the recipes in the magazines that inspired or interest me without the stacks of them throughout my house and in boxes stored in the basement.
I am going to share with you my secrets. I started this project with my kids and saved it for rainy days while we were home watching movies in the weekends. As you can see from pictures in my office I still have quite a library of magazines that still need to be cleaned out but overall I have done a pretty good job collecting and organizing magazines that date back to 1998. You may gather I have been collecting cooking and recipe magazines and cookbooks for many many years!
I do love cooking and it really does relax me and what makes me the happiest is when I get to share the meals I cook with friends and family. Sometimes when I am not sure what to make I sit down and go through my binders. Mine are very organized and it may seem silly to you but when it's done and you are looking for a appetizer or dessert they are much easier to find. I even have the main courses organized by type such as; seafood, poultry, beef, etc. I have so many more to organize my next step is to create a binder for each food category!
I took several binders and created a label along each side. Just do this with your regular printer paper. Go to your local office supply store or department store and pick up insert separators. It's not necessary but it will prevent pages from tearing and protect from food spills. I do a front and back recipe or it's great for a recipe that takes up two pages.
Below are pictures of my binders. You will notice miscellaneous recipes. Those are the ones I need to organize. My kids put them in the binders and I need to do the next step. We will wait for another rainy day!
I hope this tip helps you to better save the recipes you love in magazines without the clutter!
Super tip: If you can't afford to buy monthly magazines then ask you hair dresser, doctors office or other business to save them for you. Most of them just toss them out so go ahead and collect them and make your own recipe book. Also, what a great gift for a grad or other foodie!
Enjoy..
